I was looking for a replacement for Windows Home Server, which I found to be a bit problematic to set-up and get going with. My home server forms the backbone of my network and as I am a freelance cameraman, video editor and photographer, I make high demands on reliability, usability and performance. WHS never cut it for me and the existing Drobo, which I have connected via Firewire 800 to my Mac, may have served me well for the past year but its performance is shockingly lacking!
It’s time to put together a brand new workstation PC to help me boost productivity when video editing, photoshopping, VM testing, web design, VTPro design and of course relaxing by playing the latest games at a decent resolution and speed. Since quite a few people have asked me recently what I would recommend, I thought I’d share my current ideas with you. More after the break.
Synopsis: Manufacturing in the UK unfairly gets bad press. Despite reports of its imminent demise, Britain remains the world’s 6th largest manufacturer. Output reached an all time high in 2007, although right now the sector is suffering from the downturn. To take the temperature of industry in the UK we went to the midland town of Derby, which hosts a surprising range of companies producing goods for both domestic and export markets.
Finally had a chance to put this one up for your enjoyment: Sam Pickett playing “Celestial” live at The Sovereigns pub in Woking in May 2010. View the video after the break.
